This site runs on Ghost, which is soon to be on the Fediverse!

The neat thing about this is that I may be finally able to DITCH FACEBOOK for good now. Anyone with any fediverse (activitypub) social media account can follow me and interact with me on my website. So, now, instead of remembering that I even have a website and that you have to navigate to it just to get very little info or updates, you can have your own account elsewhere and see when I post stuff!

Sort of like subscriptions, or RSS, but nobody uses those much anymore. But the best part is that you don't have to leave your app to interact with me!

You can see the progress they have made. The app I chose to use for my blog now going full federation. That's awesome!

"I'm new, what is all this stuff? Federation? ActivityPub?"

Federation is basically two or more instances agreeing on a protocol to communicate on. Take Facebook and Instagram for instance. Though, if you knew, they are the same company now, but the example still remains true. You can watch Instagram videos on Facebook, and even comment on them from either platform. You can have an Instagram account without Facebook and still interact all the same.

That is essentially what is happening, but, one person can be using Mastodon. Lets give Mastodon an alias of Gmail. And then another person is on Ghost, which we'll call Yahoo.

I can send an email from Gmail to someone on Yahoo and both will be able to read it one in the same. They use a protocol of SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to agree on so that they can both interact with the email.

Now, Mastodon and Ghost use a protocol of ActivityPub. A whole different technology but essentially you can think of them being able to interact with the post (email) all the same.

In summary, there is a protocol that enables any number of different websites that utilize this protocol that can all interact with each other. Making my personal blog essentially a whole social network.

I'm looking forward to soon being able to interact with people from my blog! Which I, admittedly, barely update. And leave other social networks for good!

And, I own this thing. I own my information that I have on here. I don't have to worry about it suddenly dying because of political, monetary, or any other stupid reasons that are outside of my control. I will be here. Hopefully forever.
