I Passed the BTL1 Certification!
This one was a monster... Both good and bad.
This took me about 2 months to pass and it wasn't because it was hard material, but the material was bad.
The Test
The test for this one was a 24 hour test, where you don't have to be taking the test all 24 hours but you more or less have a deadline for a deliverable of findings.
Like the eJPT test, it is a virtual machine environment where you are given the material you have to parse through to answer the questions.
It includes things like Phishing, Digital Forensics, and Incident Response.
It's another test of if you don't know the HOW, then you won't pass the test. So there isn't any cheating, because it won't help you find an answer.
The Course
This is where I was not as enthused as eJPT. The material was all written, so if you don't comprehend the information by reading it, you don't get much practice. There are a few labs that spoonfeed the answers out of you, so you don't get in to the nitty gritty of the softwares they are using.
The whole collection of material could be read in about a day, maybe two, it's really not much. But it's so bare bones that if you don't go into this course without prior experience in their technologies then you will struggle. Not fail, but you will have to find more instruction outside of the course.
This is why I really didn't like this course or the way it was delivered, as it just wasn't great information. I didn't learn from the Blue Team Level 1 material.
I learned from TryHackMe, Google, YouTube, and everything else. Even their labs didn't teach me enough.
When I sat down to take the test, I was NOT ready. I had their course material up next to me the whole time and nothing in thier material helped me pass the test.
It was like, "Here's how to bake a cake" And all it shows you is was the cake looks like and the texture. You have no idea how much goes in to baking a cake until you try it a thousand times and in the end, you taught yourself how to bake a cake, but it does look like the end result they showed you.
I hated it. Not fun.
In summary, I struggled. I hated the course material but in the end I did learn a lot. But I didn't learn it from them.
